EAG Spotlight: William Hopfe

Meet William Hopfe, Consultant at EAG. Will has 4+ years of experience in the oil and gas industry and has served as the Land subject-matter-expert on several engagements by managing and updating streams of code, converting data from a tract-based system to an agreement-based system, and solving system defects. Will has also wrote data conversion scripts for operated and non-operated expense decks, revenue decks, and suspense.

In his spotlight, Will shares some of his proudest moments, things he’s learned, what inspires him, and more! Read below to learn more about Will.

1. How would you describe EAG?

EAG raises the standard for the industry. Our teams use their experience and skillsets to overcome complex challenges, and continuously find better ways to solve them using technology.

2. What has been one of your proudest moments working at EAG?

My proudest moments are in using my abilities to consume, analyze and transform data for clients. This past year I helped write and maintain 50 scripts for a land conversion.

3. What advice do you have for prospective candidates that want to join EAG?

Prospective candidates should be ready to expand their current skillsets and be ready to get out of their comfort zone.

4. What’s one thing – either industry-related or not – you learned in the last month?

I recently taught myself how to write a loop in SQL to parse out jumbled legal descriptions.

5. What do you like to do in your free time? Any favorite places you like to visit?

I play a ridiculous amount of Disc Golf. I enjoy traveling to new Disc Golf courses that I have never played before. One of my favorite places to visit is Waco, there are lots of great disc golf courses there.

6. Tell us something that might surprise us about you.

Woodworking is a hobby of mine. I have made a couple of tables, a porch swing, and some cutting boards.

7. How do you balance your career with other priorities?

Sometimes I need to remind myself that priorities outside of my career are what help me to keep striving in my career. I prioritize rest and hanging out with my friends and family when I am not at work.

8. Who or what inspires you and why?

My friends at my church are an inspiration to me because they are a model for me to follow for consistently pursuing my faith in every aspect of my life.

9. What is your life motto or favorite quote?

Measure twice, cut once. Applies to many things in life!

10. What’s your superpower?

My superpower is troubleshooting code. Whether I wrote it or someone else did, if the result is not what I expect, I can figure out where the issues are occurring, whether it is an error in how it is written, or it is an anomaly within the data.
